Emergency Shelter
After months of living unstably in shelters, hotels, and even his car, Terry, a single father with three daughters, arrived at our emergency shelter. His housing instability was the result of multiple challenges, including substance abuse, chronic health issues, and a fixed income from SSI and caretaker benefits. Upon entering the shelter, Terry’s Case Manager conducted a thorough psychosocial assessment, uncovering his strengths: his deep love for his daughters, his commitment to recovery, persistence in his job search, and clear goals for his future. Despite already being approved for a Section 8 housing voucher, Terry struggled to find a landlord willing to rent to him due to his criminal and eviction history. With the support of his Case Manager, Terry created an Individual Plan for Independence, setting clear goals for housing, income, and wellness to help him and his family move forward toward stability.
