Achieving Success Through an “Ongoing Circle”

Achieving Success at Cathedral Center

The past month has been a meaningful one for the Case Management team at The Cathedral Center Emergency Shelter. As the team has grown with recent hires, their communication and support for one another have strengthened, contributing to a number of clients reaching important milestones on their housing journeys.

Our Case Managers have always played a crucial role in walking alongside clients as they identify their goals and work toward stable housing. Recently, that partnership has led to measurable progress that reminds us how impactful this work can be. Currently, six of eight families and thirteen of twenty-six single adults staying at our Emergency Shelter have secured safe housing or obtained a housing voucher.

These outcomes reflect both the dedication of our Case Management team and the determination and resilience of our clients as they navigate complex systems and take meaningful steps toward stability. While each person’s path is unique — and progress looks different for everyone — these milestones represent significant movement forward.

When asked about these recent successes, Ismael, a Shelter & Community Case Manager, pointed to the strong teamwork, consistent communication, and mutual support among staff as key factors. He shared appreciation for fellow Case Managers “who have gone above and beyond by advocating on calls, putting in extra time to complete paperwork, and preparing clients ahead of time with required documents,” ensuring clients feel informed and prepared throughout the process.

Michelle, our Case Manager Supervisor, echoed Ismael’s reflections and attributed some of the progress to recent program restructuring. Within the last month and a half, the Case Management team adjusted the structure and pacing of client meetings. Previously, psychosocial assessments and updates to Individualized Personal Plans were completed after thirty days. Now, those conversations take place within the first or second meeting, allowing clients to identify priorities sooner and access resources earlier. By understanding each client’s strengths, needs, and goals at the outset, the team can respond more quickly and collaboratively.

Michelle describes the Case Management team as an “ongoing circle.” Each member recognizes the strengths of others and contributes in ways that support the whole. Rather than working in isolation, they rely on one another to remain flexible and responsive in a work environment that is constantly evolving.

The phrase “ongoing circle” also reflects the reality of our clients’ experiences. The journey toward housing stability is not always linear. Setbacks can occur, timelines can shift, and circumstances can change. Our Case Managers meet each individual wherever they are, honoring their experiences and recognizing that no two paths are the same. Every client we serve brings unique strengths, hopes, and goals, and our role is to walk alongside them as they pursue stability and self-defined success.

Consider donating or volunteering with us to support our different programs, including our Case Management Program, which has been able to grow and achieve successes like these because of our community’s generosity!
