I Wouldn’t Be Where I Am Without You

At Cathedral Center, we believe every person deserves the opportunity to build a safe, stable, and fulfilling future. Individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability possess tremendous strength and resilience. With compassionate support, resources, and opportunities, they can continue moving toward their goals. Every day, we have the privilege of walking alongside women and families as they define success for themselves. Together, we take meaningful steps toward greater stability and independence.

We were recently honored to reconnect with a former Friendship House guest who returned with their sister to seek services. They shared that Friendship House was the first place that came to mind when their sister needed support. Their own positive experience made it a trusted source of help.

During their stay at Friendship House, they worked closely with our Clinical Services Coordinator to address mental health challenges, strengthen coping skills, and identify strategies that supported their goals. Through consistent encouragement and a trusting relationship with staff, they recognized their strengths and processed difficult experiences. They built confidence and developed tools to navigate life’s challenges. Our team also connected them to community resources and practical supports. These resources helped lay the foundation for long-term stability.

The former guest shared that the clinical support they received helped them feel heard, supported, and empowered. They demonstrated remarkable resilience while working toward their housing and employment goals. Despite obstacles, they continued moving forward. After leaving Friendship House, they transitioned into permanent housing. Today, they continue to maintain stability while pursuing personal and professional goals.

During their recent visit, they reflected on the impact of the support they received, telling staff, “I wouldn’t be where I am without you.” Their decision to return with their sister speaks to the trust they have in our services. It also reflects the hope they wanted to share with someone they care about. They had experienced the value of a safe environment, supportive relationships, and access to critical resources. Because of that experience, they knew their sister would be met with the same compassion, dignity, and encouragement.

We are grateful to have been part of their story and honored by the opportunity to reconnect. Their experience reflects the impact of trauma-informed, person-centered care and the power of trusting relationships. It is also a reminder that healing and stability are possible. Safe housing, supportive services, and a caring community can make all the difference. Stories like this inspire our work every day. They reaffirm our commitment to helping women and families build brighter futures, one life at a time.

You can help support our services that empower women and families to achieve their goals and regain their independence by donating or volunteering with us!
